Impossible to describe by old genre names, the aesthetic they create in their 2009 E.P. Psychic Chasms is a cassette-oriented vibe in which the soft vocals, nintendo sounds, Italo-disco synth pop, and drum sounds of the 80s resurface with a clear sense of ennui, described more than once along the lines of, “hazy electro-pop with a penchant for imposing a hallucinogenic effect on the listener and nostalgia for childhood.
Opening for them will be electro party mainstays, Southern Belle and Mystery Roar.
Crafting both pop singles and long-form dance tracks, Boston's Mystery Roar produces recordings that are melodic, danceable, and contemporary. Their references are familiar; not forced: disco, blue-eyed soul, new wave, soft rock, synth pop. The sextet's live set is sweaty and passionate. Signature three part vocal harmonies are supplemented by vocoders, rhythmic guitars, acoustic and electronic percussion, and swirls of synthesized glitter. Look out for their self-titled debut ep in April, 2010 on Dopamine Records.
